On August 4, 1892, Abigail Borden, the second wife of Andrew Borden, was discovered along with her husband hacked to pieces in their Fall River home. The only other people at the house that day were the maid, Bridget Sullivan, and Andrew’s youngest daughter Lizzie. The case became highly sensationalized for several reasons. First of all, this was a time in history when newspapers and media became far more widespread and crazy, bloody stories like this could easily capture the national spotlight. Plus, the circumstances surrounding the case were quite scandalous.
