Fort Collins Time Capsule
In January 2013, a time capsule dated 6 June 1907 was found in a cornerstone of the building at 140 Oak Street. It was about half the size of a cereal box, and packed tightly with newspapers, postcards, photographs and letters.
The contents that were well preserved showed us a different time in Fort Collins. A time when women’s skirts could be purchased for only $2.44 and a newspaper was just 5¢. According to the Coloradoan it took nearly ten minutes just to open the tightly packed container. Inside the capsule was tightly packed with newspapers, postcards, photos, tickets to the old Opera House, a program for the Colorado Ag School and also a letter from the YMCA showing details of the building’s construction.
