Singapore’s Oldest Time Capsule
The time capsule was found underneath the foundation stone of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd during renovations.
The Cathedral’s foundation stone and time capsule were discovered underneath a pillar at the restoration site in January 2016. The time capsule comprises publications such as a prayer booklet and newspapers from 1843, as well as 24 international 18th- and 19th-century coins and tokens. People leave time capsules as a part of themselves. They believe they are contributing towards enriching the knowledge of posterity and sometimes they do it for fun. As long as there is this Freudian need present amongst us, we will make time capsules.
