UK’s ‘Smart’ Motorway Network Expected To Double Its Length By 2025 Despite Safety Concerns

The “smart” motorway network called the Highways England is expected to double its length from 416 miles to 788 miles in the next six years.

By April 2025, Highways England is expected to make literal inroads into “smart” lanes to boost road capacity. The current plan includes the M1, M4, M5, M6, and M25 roads that have different speed limits. They also include emergency lay-bys for drivers by the wayside.
